Jesus Visits Martha and Mary
38 As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. 40 But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” 41 But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Mary clearly understood that it was more important to set her sights on Jesus than it was for her to be preoccupied with the mundane. Focus on what God is saying, on where God is wanting to take you and what He’s wanting to do in your life. Jesus wasn’t more present to Mary than He was to Martha, His presence wasn’t greater on one side of the house than it was the other. Mary in this instance had a greater awareness and perspective for where she needed to be and for what Jesus wanted to say.
God isn’t great for one time of your life and then not so great the other times; God is great everyday. It’s your awareness & perspective that needs to shift toward Jesus. Jesus will take your mess and make it a masterpiece so don’t stay focused on the mess, Jesus isn’t worried about your mistakes, He’s focused on you. In 2016 make a decision to shift your focus past your own life and look towards a life in Christ.
